SOAP Credentials

Hi all,

A simple question, but I haven't located an answer in the documentation yet. I'm attempting to start using our SOAP API. All of the examples I have found supply user credentials (user/password). Our implementation does not use passwords, but instead uses the Pass-Thru Authentication model. 

Are the credentials different in this context, or do I need to create a user for this purpose?
